Another reason I like walking along the canal up to Hackney Wick, is this beautiful café. It has become my new favourite London café and I think it is because it reminds me of Berlin: having a coffee there is a little bit like going on a very short holiday. It lies tucked away in an industrial area of Hackney Wick, you wouldn't just stumble upon it, but it is almost always full of interesting and friendly looking people.
Unfortunately my favourite seat was taken: they have placed a row of old cinema seats facing the rectangular window to the streets - so you can sit there and people watch, which I think, is easily ten times better than going to the cinema.
If I was to move to another part of London, it would be Hackney Wick. It has such a buzz about it and it's full of artist's studios hidden away in big old industrial buildings. It is very quiet, hardly any traffic because there isn't really much around, and you get a feeling that everyone living there knows one another. For example these two people (who certainly look like artists) bumped into each other on the streets, as they went out to get some milk and a newspaper.
