Spring Give-Away

I'm so bored with the grey and rainy weather we've been having here in London, so to cheer things up a bit I've decided to have my very first give-away here on the blog.

I've been wanting to do a British version of my Gromperekichelchen Tea-Towel, for quite a while now, but I can't decide which recipe to use. Gromperekichelchen are little potato cakes, which isn't the national dish, but is loved by Luxembourgers and in many ways symbolises Luxembourgishness. So, basically, for the British version, I'd like to use a food recipe that Brits can be proud of and which symbolises Britishness and I'd love to hear your suggestions (you don't have to be British as it would be great to know what other nationalities associate with Britishness).

I'm giving away a zippered pouch (20 x 11cm) made from the fabric from my Faroese cushions, a tiny butterfly brooch - crocheted using fine pink silk thread and an original Gromperekichelchen Tea Towel in red.

To take part, you just have to be a follower of my blog and comment on this post with an idea for a British recipe. I'll randomly select a winner on Monday the 21st of May and post the gifts that week.

  1. Great idea! I guess what sums up Britain for me, is it's multiculturalism. So why not the Balti?? A British style curry? Don't forget to serve it in the traditional wok-esque bowl with a nan on the side :)

    (ready for my tea now!)

  7. Okay, this is funny. I'm faroese, so your 'Faroese cushions' are just awesome in my opinion! I always think of custard - since it's the only sauce the british have invented. And having it on a tea towel would be a great excuse to make it more often!

    1. Wow I'm so happy to have a Faroese follower and even more happy that you like my faroese cushions! Of all the knitting patterns I researched the Faroese ones were my favourite. Even though they date back generations, they all look so modern - it was difficult just to chose one. I hope spring has arrive in the Faroe Islands and that you have a lovely weekend. x

  8. I've always loved bangers... and I found a website that gives some ideas for making "better bangers" (I'm not quite sure how they could be made "better"). Here's the link: http://www.thepauperedchef.com/2010/03/homemade-british-bangers-and-the-search-for-rusk.html

  9. I'm following! Lovely giveaway :) An idea for a British recipe... Hmm. I am much more of a sweets person than a savoury, so I think I'd have to go for a classic British pudding such as a steamed sponge - I like them made with a golden syrup topping!

  12. Hello. I just became your newest follower and just found your blog. What a delightful bundle of goodies. I'm an Australian living in New Zealand, who spent my childhood moving around the world including a few years in Denmark (I see you are a Dane). As for an idea for a British recipe, I would have to suggest a pie. We are having a Welsh chicken and leek pie for dinner tonight- delicious. Look forward to reading more of your posts. Cx
